Michael Brandon Rhodes has always been an avid fan of music from early on in his life. At an early age, he joined the local African Drum and Dance troops Umoja and Burundi. From membership in both these groups he gained an unorthodox understanding of rhythms and music. After serving as African Drum Instructor for Umoja from 99-03, Rhodes left the group and was focusing on making his own music. From there, Rhodes assembled some of his closest friends to form the metalcore band There It Lies. Rhodes performed as the bands vocalist. After the disbandment of the group, Rhodes continuing making music he also set out to start crafting unique instrumentals for emcees. As 04 rolled around Rhodes was now DJ Blackout.
After meeting Blue Water Tribe at a local By the end of summer 04 Blackout was a full member of the Tribe. Skull Division released their album sans MR Blackout due to a religious hiatus taken by the DJ. Back in the swing of things, Blackout linked up with the newly formed Sub-Bombin crew to help create some of the early recordings of the crew.
